As a DP, I selected AA on my personal plat, and bought gift cards, maybe 10 minutes later, so it appears no delay is needed when getting them.

8/3 Selected AA
8/3 Bought 2x$100 gift cards on aa.com
8/5 posted to Amex
8/6 reimbursed $200
