Flew YYZ MGA via both PTY and SJO today. On time boarding at PTY, then aircraft taken out of service, switched to aircraft next gate over, took 45 minutes, then SJO was closed due to practically hurricane like conditions, left 90 minutes late ex PTY.
Arrival in SJO they dispensed with the MGA passengers deplaning and switching aircraft, left us on, added the MGA passengers, left on time and arrived about 3 minutes early.
Huge late on the SJO passengers and at the same time, great on time for MGA on the same flight - that takes the cake. At least it occurred to them the smartest way to make up for part of the problem was to keep the same aircraft in service vs the ol' swaperoo.
AA would have had 18 late flights cascading from this problem, so while I pity the SJO bound, I made out pretty good and saw Copa use fair logic in problem management.
