BA used to fly a B747 direct from Heathrow to Detroit.
It was around 2001 and I remember it well as I had the choice of Concorde to New York and then internal to Detroit or direct Detroit for the same money (about £1000).
I choose the direct option and shortly afterwards Concorde was grounded.
The only conciliation was that I got an upgrade from Economy to Club on the way out
