Thanks for that info, it's really enlightening. I often booked LH routings on UA.com because it was able to put together itineraries that LH.com refused to show and because you could select the exact booking class that you wanted. I did wonder why I stopped being able to do this at some point last year so that does explain it. UA.com doesn't even price up anything other that full fare in economy and business classes now (probably due to LH changing the fare rules for D class fares from fully changeable and refundable last year to non-changeable and non-refundable whatsoever this year!).
