Hmmm.....nice theory but not exactly the case. They aren't saving that much more money with breakfast than they would be with a comparably sized lunch/dinner smaller meal. The reality is that, for some reason, its been common practice for most if not all US carriers to serve breakfast on the TransPac flights. Someone had the idea that most people eat the meal after takeoff as dinner, sleep, then prior to arrival people are waking up and wanting to be served breakfast. Personally it seems a little silly to me, and I have noticed that on a few flights, notably the SFOHND trip I took several years ago, they offered a lunch/dinner type meal but then again that was a much later arrival.
