Ask to speak with Event Manager or get them to call Marriott Support and get correct information.
Or just make sure they enter the event into the Event Tool with the dollar amount spent. The nights will appear automatically when the event and points post. The property doesn't award nights, Marriott does. Arguing with clueless properties is an exercise in frustration. Just have them focus on entering the event correctly.
