In many continental countries, Amex acceptance is noticeably lesser than Visa/Mastercard. The Netherlands' biggest supermarket chain doesn't accept ANY credit cards, except in a handful of stores.
Amex acceptance is less than V/MC around the world, this is true. But Amex is accepted widely across Europe see list of sovereign European states here...
