Questions: The woman who did all the legwork for you, was she wearing a yellow shirt? Those are the airport staff, any other color would indicate airline staff.
Also, you must have come in at gates 5-8 because the other side of stairs/escalator to immigration (gates 9-12) do not have the sign present IIRC.
Happy to hear it worked out for you, TBH I wouldn't have expected it to.
