I do IHG as a secondary, since it's cheap to get Platinum (the IHG Chase credit card, $49/yr) and then optionally also pay for Ambassador ($200 or something).
The problem with IHG is very few real elite benefits. If the OP is looking for tangible elite benefits, then other programs would probably be a better fit. If the OP is just looking for a secondary program for award rooms with little to no elite recognition, then IHG would be a much better fit.
