I tried probing the recon Credit Analyst about this by proactively offering to close an account in order to open a new AS, but that's when he stated somewhat explicitly that it wouldn't help since they were looking for how accounts were opened and closed over the last 2 years.
I might try closing one anyway and re-applying in the next two months or so to test the theory out.
