"It" was full. There's more than one bus company.
A colectivo is just that, a shared taxi. So the price depends on how many people are sharing it to divide the cost.
Getting off an international flight with long immigration lines and then getting straight onto a 3+ hour bus ride wouldn't be my idea of how to travel comfortably, especially when you can't speak the language.
