While the reaction may be a bit outsized, it the OP's luggage was actually tagged to DXB at check-in and later, at the gate, was "retagged" transit to DOH.
If EK had a problem with it, it would've been the right thing to bring it up at check-in where alternative measures can be taken.
I would be ticked-off too... but probably not enough for two registered letters!
