I too took advantage of the 100K AmEx Plat offer 1 year ago, annual fee due soon, plan to make the call soon. Is the “retention” bonus contingent upon paying the annual fee? Can the card be cancelled, with non-payment or refund of the annual fee, after the retention bonus is received? Basically asking if there is a legitimate way that the retention bonus can be received along with avoiding the annual fee (understanding it would require account closure). Thank you.
