AS access to AA award inventory isn't any better than AA SAAver, so we have the same problem booking AA flights AAdvantage members do (and we can't even resort to the inflated awards on AA.com). I consider myself very fortunate to have been able to book an AA award with AS miles fairly recently, including the domestic segment. It's really tough. You basically have to wait for AA to open the floodgates and be able to book in a short window, and hope it works for you.
yes i booked some AA flights using my AS miles earlier this year and the AA award availability at that time seemed to be significantly better. thanks for the links!
