What is an "improvement" in equipment?
Most of the time you get an equipment swap you're going to get a smaller plane. The reasons for this are pretty obvious, flights are more likely to be significantly undersold than so massively oversold that a larger plane would make sense, since there are internal limits on how many seats any given flight will be oversold by.
For example an improvement would be a change from non-lay flats to lay flats.
