Maybe it is b.s. and maybe it is some very big deal if somebody bothers to follow up. Since you have zero control and don't know, the risks are yours. Sort of like breaking into a house and having the owner point a gun at you and taking your wallet. Sure, he has robbed you, but you can't quite call the police to complain.
