OP, could you give more details? Was this requested when you checked into the lounge? What was said and what was the answer after you refused?
I'll admit to being extremely surprised. I have seen thousands of people in shorts in BA lounges over the years so wondering if there might have been another issue or were they very unusual shorts?
Some airlines like QF have no shorts policies in lounges (and no flip flops).
