It is never
supposed to follow you (even in SDC) but usually it does. I've generally found that as long as the coupon stays intact (which is the case for SDC and also for simple even exchanges) that the upgrade stays as well.
Out of curiosity (as I've never seen the TOD upsell book into P), does your receipt show the upgrade as a "fee" or an "add/collect"?
