You will be outside the secured area once you exit customs and immigration. All international passengers arriving in the US must clear TSA security before boarding their connecting flights (domestic or international).
After you exit the Federal inspection facility and recheck your bags, turn to your right. You will see a sign directing you to "Gates 40-159 / TSA Checkpoint." That is the relatively new checkpoint on the arrivals level of the TBIT connector building. The lines there are significantly shorter than at the TSA checkpoint on the departures level.
