I pre-ordered the Japanese meal. If you have just read appleguru's DTW-PEK post immediately above...

I was all excited for the mid flight snack, which was on the menu as Teriyaki Beef Tenderloin.. Was disappointed when this salmon and cheese thing came out (was... just like the starter?) :-/
... there is going to be some deja vu
which I guess is not too surprising since both were ex-DTW flights.
Essentially the same salmon with capers:
I've only had octopus one other time, as sushi, and I thought I remembered it having a crunchy texture (Google suggests I'm wrong). This wasn't -- toothy without being too rubbery and tasted decent enough, but not so much so that it makes me crave octopus now.
Sort of similarly, my other experience with ikura was not a good one, but I liked this as well. The greasy nature of the shisamo fish was not my bag though, and I only ate a small amount of it.
That kinda sums up my impression of the other elements too. Good, certainly by airline food standards, but not mind-blowing.
The Kobe meatballs, on the other hand, were awesome
I also thought the lava cake was fantastic
I also wanted the tenderloin for my mid-flight snack and was disappointed when my choices were this or the soba noodles. And based on the presentation I was initially expecting mozzarella with the tomatoes but I think it was some sort of goat cheese spread.
Almost there: pork curry, which was quite good.
