Given that plenty of us are going to Tokyo next year, and being an aircraft enthusiast, I'm also curious about this. Currently Qatar has the following routes and planes for Tokyo:
QR806/QR807 - DOH-HND - 787-8
QR812/QR813 - DOH-NRT - 77L
But from the latest news
it appears DOH-HND will be up-gauged to an A350 next July.
But what about the 77L and the NRT route? With the new route to Las Vegas in JAN18 and no new 77L deliveries they will have to get a plane from somewhere, so maybe NRT? However looking at the pax numbers each aircraft carries there are a couple of problems:
- 77L has a big number of J pax;
- A350 has 36J (6 less) and 247Y (30 more).
So, is there enough Y demand to increase both routes to an A350? This would make a total of 72J vs the current 64J.
Or if not enough demand, down-gauge it to a 787-8? Total of 58J.
Maybe someone with more knowledge on this can chime in.
