My curtain was only fully closed when I was about to settled down to sleep, about 3 hours into the flight. I'm a reasonable chap (well I think so) so wouldn't have been to worried about access to the overhead before then but might have been while snoozing. Luckily, the lad in the middle settled down to sleep straight away so it was never going to be an issue.
