It is not as if this sort of option unknown, is it? One of the best options for a 50K elite is that of being able to requalify at 45K at no additional cost. Pretty good deal on that, and I would say the best option available, and yet no one here comes up with convoluted theories to explain why it is granted.
So I've been pretty vocal on FT about the value of that benefit. It's saved me in both 2014 and 2015 when my kids were born and kept me spending money with AC because I had E50 status despite not crossing 50,000 AQM. But let's not kid ourselves; the reason AC offers the lower qualification level is because they decided to stop offering free status miles as an option.
