A new delay explanation: AA pilot hurt himself getting to gate

Nothing much here nor there about this incident, except for its oddness: Flying AA from LAX to SFO this past Sunday, our flight was delayed for a couple of hours because, according to the gate agent, "the pilot injured himself making his way to the gate. We are working to locate a replacement pilot." The announcement was shortly before we were schedule to board. The gate agent later announced that a replacement pilot had in fact been located.

Now, there's some ambiguity in the explanation, but I take it to probably mean that the pilot somehow hurt himself (tripped and fell?) while actually in the airport, walking to the gate. Either that, or perhaps a pre-departure drink(s) that he should not have had?

Anyway, this explanation for a delayed flight was a new one on me.
