In flight services

In flight services
What can you expect during your flight?
In the air QR is truly five star! There are very few that dispute that fact, but there are some.
The cabin crews are very well trained but everyone has an 'off' day now and then. Not that is usually noticeable.

Most of the content of this thread is based upon Business class but some applies to First and economy classes as well. In most things First class is a notch higher than Business and Economy is one or two notches lower.

What Amenities are available?:
Apart from a few shorthaul flights all passengers should receive an amenity kit. In economy small amenity kits are available on night flights over six hours and most day flights over eight hours.
On most night flights Business and First passengers will receive a pair of Pyjamas. In first, and on very longhaul flights in Business, passengers will often receive slippers. The Wiki on Amenity Kit and Pyjamas contains the latest available information about what is available per flight.

I am hungry! What about Food and drink?:
All Food and drink onboard is free of charge.

The Food discussion in general and Economy class thread is for general topics about food service and for economy meals.
The QR J menus 2017 thread is for the J meals served on board and the F menus 2017 for First class meals. There are also discussion threads for Business class discussion and First class discussion.
There are a number of special meals available if required. See Special meals for more details. Special meals are suited to the cabin class and are usually as varied as the ordinary menus. Sometimes they look even better than the ordinary meals.

The list of drinks available varies from cabin class to cabin class.

How many meals will be served on my flight?:
Until mid 2014 QR published monthly listings of the meals served in each cabin for each flight. With a restructuring of the food service and the introduction of 'Dine on demand' in Business and First these are no longer published.
In economy there appears to be no way of finding out how many meals will be served. But with a little bit of work help is at hand in the guise of the J class menus. Look at the Wiki on QR J menus 2017 and see if there is a menu for your flight. If not is there one for a similar length and time of day to another destination? Examine the menu and you will see that it is divided into sections, Usually a main meal followed by 'Snacks'/'Refreshments'/' 'Lite bites'/'Light options' etc. On very longhaul flights there may even be a third serving. This is the maximum number of servings in economy. it may even be less than that, depending upon flight time. For example most flights to/form Europe are so short that a second serving is omitted even though there are two in Business. Even then there may be snacks available – ask the FA.
mpkz points out "Most midhaul flights (i.e. Europe-DOH, Africa-DOH) have a full meal and then a sandwich/pastry - normally meal is served first, but if it's a night flight they may switch it around."
The order of meal service, and the menu, changes according to the time of day.

What is Dine on Demand?:
In First and Business class there is no general meal service but you may pick and choose from the menu as to what you want to eat and when. This is usually signified by the words A la carte at the top of the menus first printed page. If you want to eat at the start of the flight and then nothing else on the flight you can do so. If you want to eat at five different times during a flight you may do so. You are in charge.

I am bored! What about In Flight Entertainment (IFE)?:

All but 18 shorthaul A320s have IFE available.
The offerings vary from aircraft type to aircraft type.
Comments and discussions are welcome on the IFE – discussion thread.

What about my seat?:
There are several different type of seats available. These are mentioned on the The Complete Guide to the Qatar Airways Fleet thread and more fully described as follows:-
A319 - Airbus A319: seating Q&A
A350 - Airbus A350: seating Q&A
A380 - Airbus A380: seating Q&A
B777-200LR - Boeing 777-200LR: seating Q&A
B777-300ER - Boeing 777-300ER: seating Q&A
B787 - Boeing 787-8: seating Q&A
Other aircraft types: A320, A321, A330 and A340, do not yet have a seating plan available as a Wiki.

With the the exception of all shorthaul A320s, the A321s and the single three class A330-300 which have sloping seats, all aircraft have lie-flat seats in Business and First.

Is Wi-Fi available on-board?
Wi-Fi is available on the A380 (free for F passengers), A350, B787, A319, all but nine shorthaul A320s and A321 aircraft.
It is not at present available on A330, A340 B777 and nine shorthaul A320 aircraft.
The Wiki on The Complete Guide to the Qatar Airways Fleet contains information about which aircraft types that have Wi-Fi. Discussions about Wi-Fi are to be found on In-Flight WiFi.

Are there other in flight services?:
There are other services available but they are not deemed vital enough to warrant mention here. They can be if required.

Under development.
Your comments/suggestions are very welcome. I am sure there are mistakes in the content! This will become a Wiki for this thread so it MUST be correct from the start.
