No they aren't many other programmes explicitly state that benefits are only for the status holder and those accompanying him and rigorously enforce this. Some Starwood properties won't even give an upgrade unless the cardholder turns up and there would be no chance of night or point credit without appearing in person.
IHG seems not to care about this at all.
Yes Starwood will not give out any benefits, credit or points at all unless the account holder shows up with proper ID. They are the only ones that do this and that practice began maybe 5 or 6 years ago if I recall correctly. Hilton, Accor, IHG, etc., do not care. And yes they probably get more business because of it.
