The Westin for $200 is cheap. Ive stayed there a bunch of times and its was usually in the $350 range. Its easy to stay right in the A terminal and it has its own TSA line right in the hotel (subject to certain hours). Staying off property requires shuttle transfers and is a pain. There are plenty of restaurants right in the terminal to choose from or you can eat at the Westin and you can make a nice trip of it if you are into that kind of thing.
Yeah, and if you're staying at the Westin, you have the "right" to essentially get a gate pass to go airside even if you're not flying from DTW that day. This means that if you ahve a flight from DTW tomorrow, you can eat or shop in any of the airside places tonight or (if you have a membership) visit a SC (or two or three or four) or even play on the overhead train and in the psychedelic tunnel. [It's easier and faster if you go through TSA security in this case before the checkpoint in the Westin closes for the night.]
