You can check in at AA Terminal 4 for AA - and there is a Qantas counter. You can proceed to clear security in Terminal 4 and take the secure airside connector to the Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT) "

Seems no longer true for Qantas flights : I just flew on QF 94 (LAX/MEL) last Thu 6/28 ticketed by AA. When I went to T4 to check in, AA counter agent told me AA can no longer issues Qantas BP, and directed me to TBIT. So no secure airside connector from T4 to TBIT, nor preCheck lane at TBIT. Never mind flagship check in for FC passengers. The overall check-in/security line experience was a bummer
This is how it was for me flying YVR-LAX-MEL a couple weeks ago. I was not impressed.

Thankfully I caught a lull in security going back through and it wasn't too crazy.
