well it's certainly possible that this guy is a big jerk, but it's more likely that he's just unaware, and even the slightest reminder will embarrass him into behaving.
It seems to me that the type of person who just assumes the guy is a jerk and immediately goes into underhanded scheming mode is as much a part of the problem as the jerks themselves.
If you are considerate of others they will be considerate of you. If you are oblivious of others and dont care about others expect the same in return.
