I believe I might be the unluckiest person in (not) getting retention offers.
Last year, 4 AA cards cancelled due to lack of eligibility to be transferred to retention specialist, after multiple HUCAs.
Today, Thank You Premier, called and said cancel card on automated menu. Automated response: "we can close your card now. Proceed?" Ouch! Hmm, I'll try my luck with a human. Said "I want to cancel card unless retention offer." She checked, said no offer she can give, ready to cancel. I said how about transfer to retention specialist, she said card does not qualify for retention. I thanked her and hung up.
Should I have pushed harder to talk to retention specialist? (but automated menu suggests there really is nada).
No spend beyond $3k for sign up bonus. Are they only giving retention to big spenders now?
