Holiday Inn Express Whitby - Oshawa

Holiday Inn Express Whitby - Oshawa

What is your IHG Rewards Club status?
Platinum.

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked King, received same, no upgrade.

How are the rooms?
+ Modern & spacious
+ 9m deep x 3.5m wide

How is the exec. lounge?
N/A

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
+ Friendly, efficient staff
+ Plats offered either 500 points or a 60g bag of nuts & H2O
+ Pleasant exterior & public areas, more upscale than a typical HIX
+ Heavenly bed, slept great
+ New fridge & microwave in room
+ Spacious bathroom, ample counter space
+ Good shower pressure, ergonomic showerhead, plush towels
+ 3-minute drive or 15-minute walk to Go Train Whitby (smooth 50-minute ride to downtown Toronto. Avoids all traffic, which is a nightmare in Toronto)
+ 30 seconds off the 401, great soundproofing from main road
+ Nice outdoor saltwater pool with full sun by mid-morning
+ Many restaurants across street (Swiss Chalet, Kelsey's, Harvey's, Subway etc.)

Bad:
- Room #1: TV non-working, no power to unit. Notified front desk & quickly assigned a different room
- Room #2: Two main lights (desk, bed) burnt out
- No HD channels
- No fruit for breakfast
- Towel basket in pool area empty
- Unfortunate that pool closes at 8pm daily despite sunsets after 9pm during summer months

- Value for $ or IHG Rewards Club Points? Would you return?
$125 is a fair price for a fairly upscale HIX, but still significantly more than comparable properties in the U.S.
