How much connecting traffic does DL really have to SkyTeam partners though? I would think that most people would prefer to fly nonstop to AMS or CDG. Looking at the SkyTeam airlines at T4, all the major ones have flights to the US. I don't buy that as being the reason for DL not fully changing to T3.
I travel a lot TATL and would for a number of reasons would never consider a Skyteam connection at LHR. All my LHR travel is O&D.
