We spent our honeymoon in BB a few years back and your concerns of being "locked" to the resort are valid. Bora Bora can get pretty boring but for some reason laying out on the sun deck looking at the beautiful hues of blue makes things easier. If I were to give an suggestion it would be to spend a few nights on Moorea and a few nights on Bora Bora. Moorea is a much bigger island with a lot more things to do and it has a different feel to it as well.
