Bad luck to the OP and I can empathise how very frustrating this must be.
I would second Corporate-Wage-Slave's and Bogwoppit's advice to buy/hire what you need and seek to reclaim it after. Maybe it is best at this point to resign yourself to doing this, and try to let the matter go and enjoy the rest of your trip and let the bags show whenever they show.
