I'm bummed about the lounge situation too; often the most pleasant part of my BOS>SFO trips is the effortless security and lovely United Club at BOS. It's especially frustrating when you realize that Terminal C's new contract lounge is empty except for a few Emirates passengers.
The UC in BOS is, IMO, one of the best UA domestic lounges. I know that UA was briefly utilizing PS configured aircraft on their flights to LAX over the summer from BOS and I really hope B6's Mint product is able to demonstrate that there is a viable market for premium transcons from BOS. AA/DL/UA's 737s to the West Coast make for a really long day heading west.
