No Starwood does not own anything related to the SLS Las Vegas nor are they the managers. This is one of the majority of Starwood properties which pay a management fee to Starwood for the affiliation but the hotel itself is owned and run by other entities. Nothing strange about it.
They why the word "acquisition" in the OP? To me, that has connotations of purchase or something similar.
