Mrs. ND76 (a PM in 2015) and I (a DM in 2015) flew JFK-LHR and back on VS on an award ticket in Y in July, 2015. We were able to grab the "extra legroom" seats in Y about 24 hours after booking with DL after we got our reservation locator on VS (could not do it immediately on the VS site).
