If you are really concerned about price, I don't think it is too bad of an area. It may not be the most convenient place to use as a base for touristy things, but it is not all that bad.Mind you, I have never stayed overnight in the area.
Others may disagree, but the area around Shoreditch tends to attract a younger crowd in the evenings (20, 30s) ...
