Not necessarily. A martini may or may nothave vermouth. The bigger issue is what do you for a shaker to chill the vodka? A warm martini - now that is gross.... better to have a vodka (or gin) rocks. Also I don't think many of us (or the flight attendants) carry a reamer so the twist part is kinda difficult too although a martini is technically not impossible.
Martinis can also be poured onto ice and stirred. The trend these days is towards reducing vermouth, so I think a martini can definitely be made on the plane, but then is it just chilled gin?
