I think the agents usually will try to put you in whatever is the lowest class that is available (V or above that is). I usually just have to tell them cheapest class I can be guaranteed it and they understand.
You are in SJC area. Many TAs there do not know about seat guarantee, although a few good ones do and can handle that all by themselves.
