I agree that most prefer aisle to window. But also, most prefer window to middle.

The poster was offering the window seat to the passenger who had the middle seat. That's an offer of a better seat for a worse one (in the view of most people), so it seems like a proper offer to me. There's no requirement to offer the best possible seat, only something better than what the person currently has (or at least not worse).
