They show up at the airport and are told they do not have valid tickets. Occasionally they post their stories in this forum, and 25% of the people who respond claim it is their fault, not UA's.

Best practice with a *A partner award is to confirm with the partner that you are actually ticketed. Or at least check the ticket on the Saudia site. Saudia.
