I drive regularly in NYC & NJ, to say what Hawaii has is traffic is almost laughable. It all depends upon where you're coming from.
I agree that it can be heavy, particularly between Waikiki and the city/airport during rush hours, it's not enough to keep me from driving.
But again, it depends upon what you're used to.
