Finnair site states the following: You can select a seat free of charge in the following cases: ... You are a oneworld Emerald or Sapphire member (reservations through Finnair Customer service).

I am able to select my econ comfort seat online once I have been ticketed. It does not matter where the ticket was bought from. If it is AY ticket and tied to my AY+ account, then the selection is free on-line. I have been able to upgrade my travel companion free of charge on same PNR, however I am not sure if this would be the case fore OWS/OWE who has to upgrade through customer service.
