My reasons are pretty simple. I am mainly interested in the Marriott gold status. I will be traveling in Asia quite a bit over the next few moths and Marriott Gold members seem to get great treatment/upgrades at Marriott hotels specifically in Asia. I'm not that interested in the points, though I would use the free night certificates. With the AF this card would only make sense to me if I could buy airline gift cards to sell and offset the AF.
Gotcha, well yes, they seem to be tightening ever harder on the gift card reimbursements. But if you travel a lot, and you can afford to take chances on the reimbursements (you have use for the gift cards regardless of whether they reimburse it), it may be worth a shot?
