This time of year is unfortunately not the most affordable, but here are some respectable options. They may or may not be the cheapest and I encourage you to play around with Google Flights to see if you can find something that works even better for you.
Option 1: Require two trips:
LAX-ATL-BWI-JFK-LAX on 12/11, 12/14, or 12/15 is $388 for ~5444 miles.
Combine that with a day turn LAX-LAS-LAX on 12/11, 12/12, 12/15, or 12/16 for the minimum round trip of 1000 miles.
Option 2: Requires one trip:
LAX-SLC-HNL-LAX on 12/14 (return is a red-eye arriving early 12/15) is $603. Great Circle Mapper pegs this at 6139 miles. (Note that LAX-HNL-LAX non-stop both ways is not enough miles)
