Well, it was beautiful while it lasted... Time to burn some avios.

The little that I know about the programs are that they convert 1:1 and your IB account needs to be "vested" for 90 days.
You can book one ways with IB+ but a one-way ticket under 600 mi is still 11000.

Let me give you some examples from routes I usually take:

- SYR-DCA: the return trip costs as much as the one way (11000 avios), since the distance is below 300mi and therefore the total distance for the return is below 600mi.
- SYR-CLT: the distance is a little over 600mi. So the one-way ticket is in the 601-1000 mi and costs 12000 avios. The return ticket falls in the 1001-2000 mi range and costs 17000 avios.

However, as wiivile says, awards tickets on AA are not refundable.

Notice that with IB you don't pay per segment when redeeming on AA.

For example, I have searched for an itinerary SYR-DAY-SYR. I have found availability in Y leaving January 12 and returning January 19. This requires a stop (for instance in DCA), so the trip is actually SYR-DCA-DAY-DCA-SYR.

With the current BA chart (pre-devaluation) this costs 4500*4 = 18000 avios (30000 avios from February). With IB what counts is the total distance of the combined four segments, in this case falling on the 1000-2000 mi range and costing 17000 avios. So the IB chart is good if you are not based on a hub.

Some examples of my previous posts.

- One-way redemption under 300 mi (SYR-PHL), costing 11000 avios, the minimum possible (this is an old capture that I used in a previous thread on the IB forum):

- Return itinerary SYR-DCA-DAY-DCA-SYR, a total of between 1000 and 2000 mi and costing 17000 avios:

Moderators: sorry, if this is off-topic, it seems to me that the workings of the IB+ redemptions are not well known in this board (which is not helped by the very bad IB website), so I thought it could be interesting to summarise this given the devaluation.
