It is one of the most famous historical hotels in Moscow (somewhere close to Raffles as a comparasion) located right in the center of the city's center. Can't comment on the service level as I've never stayed there.
Kremlin, the Red Square, etc. are right next to the hotel, so if it's your first visit and you don't have a lot of time you can just take one of the usual tourist routes.
