Basically, the legacy check-in system needed to be replaced. Amadeus has a product that BA have adapted. It will work with customer data to somehow allow a more personalised experience.

It was in development while I was still with BA 2 years ago, I got to see a preview of it just before I left.

There are going to be some teething issues during the rollout, but it has to happen. Hopefully the disruption will be minimal.
