Yes, a slightly better choice, if you have lounge access, is AMS-LHR-NCL, easy to do as a back to back. The very easiest I can think of is LHR-NCL-LHR-NCL-LHR, for which there is no security check after entering LHR initially - which there would be on AMS-LHR-Anywhere. EDI is often cheaper than NCL and with a lot more flights, but there is a very small risk of not getting back to the departure gate there. With back to backs you typically have to buy single rather than return tickets.
